Youth Haven will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the grand opening of a new residential cottage on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Rob’s Cottage will house and provide services for homeless youth in the Homeless Teen and Transitional Living Program (HTTLP). The ceremonial ribbon cutting presentation will feature special guest speakers Sheriff Kevin Rambosk, Chief Stephanie Spell, Executive Director Jinx Liggett, and the Kraus Family, for whom the cottage is named. The presentation will be immediately followed by light refreshments, guided tours of the new facility, and an opportunity to meet staff and teens. RSVP’s are required for this event. Media is invited and encouraged to attend by contacting Meredith Curley at 239-687-5155.

“We are committed to improving the lives of homeless teens in Southwest Florida and are proud of our community’s investment in making this facility a reality,” said Youth Haven’s Executive Director, Jinx Liggett. “We are excited to see this program continue to grow, encouraging bright futures for the teens we serve now and for years to come.”

In appreciation for a generous investment from long-time supporters of Youth Haven, the Kraus Family has been offered naming rights for the new facility. They have chosen to name Youth Haven’s newest cottage after their son, Rob. Rob’s Cottage will house 16 homeless teens between the ages of 16-19, providing immediate care and tools needed to succeed in the future, including: housing and comprehensive support services to break the cycle of homelessness and effectively address the needs of adolescents during a critical moment in their lives.

HTTLP provides intensive case management with a strengths-based approach that meets the individual needs of the youth and encourages them to set and pursue their own goals.  With a positive youth development perspective, young people are encouraged to have a voice and participate in community living.  The focus is on empowering youth so that they can develop to their full potential.  To address the various developmental, educational, emotional, social, physical, and mental health needs of homeless youth, the program utilizes individual service plans and offers life skills classes that promote independence and housing readiness.

Rob’s Cottage is financed in part by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Collier County Community and Human Services Division.
