Youth Haven earns 4-Star rating from Charity Navigator | Youth Haven News

YOUTH HAVEN, INC. EARNS COVETED 4-STAR RATING FROM CHARITY NAVIGATOR

Youth Haven’s financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency have earned it a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator. This is the fifth consecutive time that Youth Haven has earned this top distinction.

Since 2002, using objective analysis, Charity Navigator has awarded only the most fiscally responsible organizations a 4-star rating. In 2011, Charity Navigator added 17 metrics, focused on governance and ethical practices as well as measures of openness, to its ratings methodology. These Accountability & Transparency metrics, which account for 50 percent of a charity’s overall rating, reveal which charities operate in accordance with industry best practices and whether they are open with their donors and stakeholders. On June 1, 2016, we upgraded our methodology for rating each charity’s’ financial health with CN 2.1. These enhancements further substantiates the financial health of our four star charities.

“Youth Haven’s exceptional 4-star rating sets it apart from its peers and demonstrates its trustworthiness to the public,” according to Michael Thatcher, President & CEO of Charity Navigator. “Only a quarter of charities rated by Charity Navigator receive the distinction of our 4-star rating. This adds Youth Haven to a preeminent group of charities working to overcome our world’s most pressing challenges. Based on its 4-star rating, people can trust that their donations are going to a financially responsible and ethical charity when they decide to support Youth Haven.”

“It’s important our donors trust that we’re using their donations wisely to accomplish Youth Haven’s mission,” said Jinx Liggett, Youth Haven Executive Director. “Our 4-star Charity Navigator rating demonstrates to our supporters our good governance and financial accountability.”

Youth Haven’s rating and other information about charitable giving are available free of charge on www.charitynavigator.org. More-detailed information about Youth Haven’s rating is available to Charity Navigator site visitors who become registered users, another free service.

Youth Haven first in Florida to implement new program | Youth Haven News

YOUTH HAVEN FIRST IN FLORIDA TO IMPLEMENT NEW PROGRAM

Youth Haven is excited to announce the implementation of “Collaborative Problem Solving,” an advanced approach that focuses on relationship-building with children. Youth Haven is the first institution in Florida to take on the CPS model. Director of Think:Kids and Massachusetts General Hospital Associate Professor Dr. J. Stuart Ablon traveled to Youth Haven’s campus to begin first-hand training Youth Haven staff in January.

“Being the first organization in Florida to implement CPS is very exciting. We feel that CPS is a very good fit for our organization and for what we’re hoping to accomplish with our clients,” says Youth Haven’s Clinical Supervisor Libby Badillo.

The CPS philosophy states that if a child “could do well, they would do well.” Dr. Ablon asserts children who exhibit difficult behaviors want to do better, but something is blocking their ability. Youth Haven staff is undergoing rigorous training to learn the methods and techniques to help children overcome these blockages. This includes learning to identify missing skills in some children, such as problem solving, flexibility, and frustration tolerance.
